My fitness career started when I was 21. I was fat, single, and knew that unless I did something SOON I was going to be single for a while. Fortunately for me, there was a 24-hour gym down the street from where I lived, so I joined. I had no idea what I was doing, and would go “work out” at 4 o’clock in the morning – no one was there, which made me feel comfortable. As time went on, I dropped some weight, started going to the gym later and later in the day, next thing you know I’m teaching aerobics classes. That was the start of my fitness career. I continued to teach group exercise classes for another 15 years. Over the course of those 15 years my philosophy towards fitness changed and I stopped teaching aerobic classes. My attention turned toward the strength and conditioning aspect of fitness and I haven’t looked back.
After receiving my NSCA-CPT I started training clients on-one-on and eventually moved my practice into my home studio around 2007. My training style has always been very similar to that of CrossFit – strength training combined with high-intensity conditioning. In 2011, I received my CrossFit Level-1 Trainer certification and started coaching CrossFit classes.
I love what CrossFit is doing for fitness. I love how it is bringing to the masses the age-old concept of lifting heavy and working with intensity to achieve desired results.
When I’m not coaching, or WOD-ing, I’m hanging with my dog – Tucker. 🙂 In the summer you will most likely find me on the golf course or at the driving range…I LIVE for the summer!
Trivia fact: I grew up in a bakery and love baking and cooking…and man do I have a serious sweet tooth!
